English Language Arts
The Common Core Standards for English Language Arts are the following: Reading-Literature, Reading-Informational Texts, Reading-Foundational Skills, Writing, Speaking and Listening, and Language.  These standards are implemented in numerous ways throughout the school day, especially during Circle Time, Centers, Story time, and Show and Tell.  Strong emphasis is placed on introducing students to fiction and non-fiction stories and poetry; uppercase and lowercase letter recognition; letter sounds; printing letters; use of drawing, dictating, or writing to express an opinion; small and large group conversations; and the proper use of English grammar when speaking or writing.

It is extremely important to establish a daily routine of reading with your child. In additional to the benefits of having some special time together, reading prepares your child with a foundation for academic excellence.  Try to create some DEAR time in your home:  Drop Everything And Read!
